Deja Vu All Over Again
I feel like I've been Bill & Ted'ed to the 2000's, so LJ of you DW. Another dumblr refugee looking for the platform where most of the JohnLock artists, writers and creative types are going to end up settling. I hate Twitter and Pillowfort is new and clunky right now. I'm old school fandom so all this is making me angry and tired. Leave us the fuck alone so we can feel safe, with our characters graphically shagging each other happily ever after.

Twitter really seems like a hellhole, huh?

I prefer writing in complete sentences, so visiting Twitter is like trying to read while having a seizure. Plus, horrible advertisements.

Tumblr was fun while it lasted, mostly (sometimes very not, says the person who had to burn one fandom identity due to harassment). But I've deleted everything off of tumblr: I don't do censorship and I don't party with nazis, nor do I want those who do to go on profiting from my content.
I was an early beta on pfio and it wasn't bad even though it's reeling under the tumblr exodus load made worse by all of the idiots posting to the beta users comm about "things are taking too long—is this place broken?" The several of us who are informally trying to answer questions and direct people to resources have had to take more than one time out just to breathe lest we start acting like Sherlock in a room full of Andersons.
I have to say that never having been big on LJ, I'm finding this place moderately incomprehensible. Just trying to remake a post over on the post-tumblr-fandom comm drove me to shrieking this morning because I absolutely cannot get the cut tags actually hide the comment on a post EVEN WHEN I TRANSCRIBED THE TAGS BY HAND FROM A WORKING POST. So yeah, there's stress I don't need just to make everyone's dash a bit briefer.
I dunno. I'm committed to the comm over here, which is keeping me too busy to blog for myself. It's nice talking with folks in comments, though. I'm hoping that pfio can afford some more servers from the payments the exodus brought with them because they really did listen to fans and think about what we asked for in a site and they've got some good-sounding plans. Times of transition are hard, you know?

Ha! From what I've seen many pfio members are whining about how it's "not just like Tumblr." They're certainly not giving them the time to adapt and develop -as my Dad used to say, many people are "Unable to postpone immediate gratification."
The issue I have regarding pfio is I'm afraid that fans will invest their time and efforts there and after the platform becomes successful, the ban hammer will come down again.
Totally agree with you that posts, responses and conversations here on DW seem to be a bit more, ahem, complex - I'm really enjoying them.
On the other hand, like yourself I sincerely DISLIKE the complexity of formatting and lack of simplicity for graphics posting. It's very old school and not in a positive way.
I certainly don't mind have several social media sites to check in on daily since I don't write fic (and bless those who do!) If I can follow fewer members on DW to have more complex conversations, and have pfio (or Twitter, which is where some of the artists seem to be headed) for graphic enjoyment, that's OK.
Like you, I'm hoping in the long run we find a safe permanent home for fandom that is everything we wish it should be.

As for DW, I think it's got a lot more potential for communities, fic, meta, and discussion. It definitely takes some time to get used to coding everything by hand, though. My fic rec posts took me ages to format correctly.
I really can't thank Ao3 enough for being a constant in these trying times, especially as a fic writer. Knowing my work is safe is such a relief.
